Boss Babe: Holly Barker

·Holly Barker is our next #BBOTW and she defines what a Boss Babe is! From being an entrepreneurial success to having a banging body and promoting healthy body goals she is one of the many women that we look up to here at BBM.

Here's Holly!

What are your biggest motivators in life?

My biggest motivators are myself and the ability I have to reach others and inspire them forward.  I am truly motivated by the simplicity of choice and the fact that we can choose how we think, we can choose what information we believe, we can choose how we react to the external forces that we face each day….we can choose our results by choosing to ask ourselves the right questions.

I have learnt through experience that there is no luck.  Others may seem to be dealt a lucky hand from time to time, but it is within each of us to create our own luck and to create more luck through that.  Being prepared for an opportunity that may come now or later motivates me.  The more I prepare, the more it is actually me who is creating the opportunities and becoming an authority in the fields I want to be a part of.

I am most motivated by my shift since entering into the realm of entrepreneurship, health, fitness and mentorship.  What I once wished I knew and sought information for, I now possess.  With this information and experience I am now confident in assuming a position of leadership and educating and inspiring these lessons and adventures forward.

What is your WHY?

My why is because I believe that ignorance should be educated.  We are all in a position to teach, to not judge, to educate and assist others towards their full potential.

I continuously invest in myself.  I invest in myself as a model, as an athlete, as a business owner, as an influencer, as a writer, as a mentor.  This investment provides me with many adventures and experiences that help me be better, to know better and to learn who I am meant to be.  With this constant investment and lessons learnt, the ‘why’ fully becomes the ability to teach it forward.  To give those lessons away and to continue this full circle until I am no longer here, but my lessons can live on forever.

How do you/ plan to impact your community by being a Boss Babe?

By leading through my adventure.  I don’t pretend to know it all, I am not shamed in trying something new and realizing it does not work.  I am learning each step of the way.  But being able to learn, to pivot to grow with each step, I can successful continue to build my value.  Each day I am my most valuable asset and leading through lessons learnt each day, I become more and more valuable throughout it all.

What does being a Boss Babe mean to you?

This means inspiring others, without judgement, just support.  Being a Boss Babe means that I believe success is abundant.  I believe that my value is stronger if I share it with others.  I believe in the power of building your unique value.  I believe that we create our own opportunities and our own success and that we are stronger as a community.

How did you start in the fitness industry?

I entered the industry officially when my husband and I opened our first Anytime Fitness Franchise location.  We were first officially business owners in the industry, then I decided to sign up for my first bikini competition.  From that competition I did my first photoshoot and was published multiple times.  I was hooked to the lights, camera, action, prep, photoshoot glam of it all and continued to compete and work with photographers.  I applied for sponsorship with Magnum soon into my fitness career and began retailing the awesome line in my Anytime Fitness club.  Since that first entrance I have 3 open Anytime Fitness Clubs, I still exclusively retail Magnum in all of them, I will be opening my 4th Anytime Fitness location this fall with my husband, I have competed on 9 different stages and I have had the opportunity to adventure every Olympia and Arnold with my team since signing in 2012.  I love the industry and the multitude of avenues, opportunities and networks it can provide.  I’m blessed to call many in this industry true friends.

What is one thing you would like to see change in the fitness industry?

I would love the industry to represent lifestyles and daily achievements rather than focusing so much on preparing for one day or a fake trophy.  I have had the chance to work as head judge for the FMC Federation which I believe is at the forefront to an industry change.  It is more about supporting local brands, rewarding the athletes with sponsorships and great prize values.  Many people in the industry want to get to the top or to win, but they don’t know what they would use the platform for. It’s very political.  I love seeing industry leaders working with multiple federations and publications and being at the cutting edge of their industry, instead of being at the mercy of “the” industry and just trying to not ruffle feathers…that’s when things become superficial and you just can’t trust or take some people serious.

What is your favorite healthy recipe?

  • I truly love boring, healthy food…Nothing is better to me than ground turkey or chicken and rice and broccoli….or a HUUUUGE salad…..I am also loving my post workout smoothie:
    • Recipe: PB Chocolate Espress:
      • 1 scoop Magnum Nutraceutical PB Choc Quattro
      • 1 handful baby spinach
      • 1 handful arugula
      • 1 squirt dark choc stevia
      • 3 shots espresso
      • Cinnamon
      • Ice/Water for consistency you desire
      • ***Blend and Enjoy***

What is one thing you would tell your younger self that was just starting in the fitness industry?

You can.  Anything you wish can come true.  Follow what you are passionate about and share your different.  You are different and valuable and genuine.  Stay true to your roots, wear your heart on your sleeve and work like a BOSS to make your dreams come true! <3

How do you keep a positive mindset and keep the haters out?

    • I choose my influencers.  I choose to continue to educate and surround myself with others that are smart, that go after their dreams, that can provide value to me and opportunities for my adventure.  As long as I continue to build my value and provide value to others, I will continue to build meaningful win win relationships.  Haters can com and go, and not everyone will wish to see you succeed, but lead with education and teach others how they can achieve, that is all you can do.  A quote that I heard at the beginning of my fitness adventure went something like this “All hate is formed through unrealized potential” This has stuck with me and has impacted my approach to others that do not support.  It’s ok to not be understood by others.  It’s ok to go after something, a dream that holds zero promises, it’s ok to help someone without getting paid… long as you continue to love the adventure and build you ultimate value, clarity of your purpose will come.

Thank-you so much for having me as a guest.  I’m excited to be a part of your creation and I’m honored to be a voice in your movement.

Rock this day everyone!!!
