What are your biggest motivators in life?
I would have to say my two biggest motivators in life are being able to better myself and being able to help others achieve their amazing goals.
I found that when I was younger and a competitive swimmer, it was hard for me to truly see myself as anything more than that. Swimming everyday twice a day took a toll on me which resulted in me having a pretty negative mindset. When I began working out with my mom who is a former figure competitor, I saw that fitness is like an escape. It’s something that can make all your issues go away and you can just focus on that two-hour lift session or that meal prep that you know is going to make you feel better and feel more accomplished. Fitness became my new addiction. It became something more than just picking up weights it became my life. Setting goals for myself everyday helped me grow into the person I'm today. Fitness has introduced me to such a wide scope of people throughout Calgary and many other places. It is so important to surround yourself with people who are going to help you better yourself and better them as well. I love being able to encourage and help others throughout their fitness journey because it gives me a sense of accomplishment knowing I could part take in them achieving their goals. Having other people in my fitness journey has made me realize that others out there are just like me trying to better themselves and make a life out of something they love doing.
What is your why?
Feeling great, looking great, and being healthy. I do what I love because it is my true passion. It took me years to figure this out, but since I have nothing has stopped me from achieving what I’ve achieved. I have been skinny all my life. Struggling to put on 5-10 pounds but since I focused so hard and had fun while doing it, I have been able to put on a total of 30 pounds now since I started taking fitness seriously. I invest so much more time into myself now and truly love myself and because of that I can achieve anything. Anybody can.
How do you plan to impact the community by being a Boss Babe?
I'm all about sharing my story and sharing my knowledge with others. I may have only been working out and communicating my story for a few months now, but I plan to expand that as largely as I can. Having friends and family who support me has made me realize how much I can help others through their journeys. I want to help others achieve greatness and make them feel as confident as I do now to be who they are. Whether it’s one person, or twenty, I will do anything in my power to make other ladies feel as empowered as I do.
What does being a Boss Babe mean to you?
I think being a Boss Babe means overall confidence. Striving to achieve that confidence every day even when there's going to be bad days. It means striving to reach your goals, stepping out of your comfort zone, meeting new people. Being a Boss Babe means not letting others bring you down, standing up for yourself, being who you truly want to be in life. Take control of your life; see what’s out there past your boundaries. It means being a role model to so many other people and showing them it's okay to be different.
How did you start in the fitness industry?
I was just ending my last season as a competitive swimmer and I realized I wanted to start taking fitness more seriously. I wanted to prove to myself and prove to others that I was more than just a self-conscious swimmer, but I was a confident, healthy and happy.
What is one thing you would like to see changed in the fitness industry?
The hate and judging. Women should be empowering each other and helping each other grow. It is so much nicer and so much more positive when you’re not judging others and really trying to help others succeed alongside yourself. I have met numerous amounts of amazing ladies and I would love if everybody would encourage each-other to be better.
What is your favorite healthy recipe?
To be honest for me it’s a big bowl of pasta. Carbs for me are so good and go super well on my body. Also, adding Italian sausage. If I had to choose a healthier recipe it would be skillet tomato and mozzarella chicken with crispy basil.
What is one thing you would tell your younger self that was just starting in the fitness industry?
Do not compare yourself to others. You are your own person, your own body, your own mind. You control how you feel and what you work for. It took me until this year to realize I need to be confident about my body even though I have things to grow on. That’s a part of learning and succeeding. I can’t let people drag me down, nobody should ever feel dragged down by others. Focusing on myself helped me achieve what I have so far and I don’t tend on stopping anytime soon.
How do you keep a positive mindset and keep the haters out?
I choose who I’m around. I choose who I think truly value and appreciate what I’m doing for myself. I like to prove myself to others whether they are haters or lovers. As long as I continue to grow and achieve my goals, nobody can stop me. I run off drive and accomplishment. If I remember to enjoy myself I will always succeed. Not everybody has to like you, it’s all about what you like doing.
