Boss Babe: Vania Guevarra

What are your biggest motivators in life?

My biggest motivators come from within and the people around me. But at the end of the day, it always comes down to a mental game. That drive and desire of my willingness to learn and experience more. I motivate myself by striving to improve, grow and challenge myself in many ways. Also, help others succeed and practice leading a positive life. It is so important to surround yourself with like-minded people and who uplift your mind and soul on a deeper level. That is what keeps me driven.

What is your WHY?

Passion fuels my purpose and from that purpose drives performance, performance which leads to results, and results inspire hope. Inspiring everyone… When you are passionate about something it is contagious and it sets a fire within people.

How do you/ plan to impact your community by being a Boss Babe?

It all starts with one person. Sharing my story, experience, and knowledge.  I am still learning and a work in progress so by staying true to myself and empowering the women in my life, that is how I will make my impact. Every day and every experience adds more value and through that, I hope to have an influence starting with one.

What does being a Boss Babe mean to you?

Being a Boss Babe to me means being a fighter, a believer, and an inspiration. We are all unique, we create our own opportunities and aspire to empower women. Boss Babes motivate and support each other to grow and build together.

How did you start in the fitness industry?

It all started when I fell in love with health and fitness about 4-5 years ago. I never thought I would be in this industry. I am a Water and Wastewater Technician by trade and 5 years later I am competing in a bikini competition! I love how fitness has changed my lifestyle. It has opened so many new opportunities for me and have met incredible people through my journey. I got certified about a year ago because I wanted to learn more and help people around me achieve their fitness and lifestyle goals.

What is one thing you would like to see change in the fitness  industry?

Women’s perception of lifting weights.

For women who think “I’m afraid of lifting weights because I don’t want to look like a bodybuilder” – This is a big insult to the bodybuilding industry and I had someone say this to me.

It takes so much dedication to have that body. Respect the TIME, EFFORT and the discipline. They will tell you, just as I am telling you… it really isn’t as simple as lifting weights.  There are so many benefits to adding weights to your workout and no you will not turn into a body builder. It just like saying “you don’t want to drive your car because you are afraid of turning into a NASCAR driver.” Don’t be afraid of adding weights to your workout, they are amazing! <3

What is your favorite healthy recipe?

Banana Walnut Protein Smoothie

  • 1 scoop of vanilla protein
  • ½ ripe banana
  • Handful of walnuts – I like to add a tsp of peanut butter
  • Cup of almond milk
  • Add ice and blend

What is one thing you would tell your younger self that was just starting in the fitness industry?

EAT MORE FOOD and too much cardio is no good for gains!! Hahah! When I first started, I did a lot of that fad tea cleanses and different types of dieting while training 2.5 hrs at the gym every day. I hit a plateau and almost gave up.  But I started reading about all the proper foods, exercises and talking to people who had the knowledge and helped me. I would say stay focused and use all the different reliable and honest resources available.

How do you keep a positive mindset and keep the haters out?

“They didn’t see all the hard work you put in, so when they criticize you don’t give in” – Brendon Buchard

The first rule is to love yourself. I have conditioned my mind to not let outsiders determine how I will react to their comments, remarks or actions.  It took a lot for me to get where I am now mentally. I am very self- conscious and I criticize myself daily. But It all starts with loving and trusting yourself and your own path. Visualize and focus on all the positive energy around me, that is how I keep a positive mindset. With that you are invincible. I am a work in progress and will always be. Inner peace is the new success
