Fat Fear Factor - Featuring Avocado Toast

Hey guys! For those of you who don’t know, but my name is Amy and I LOVE FOOD. Especially breakfast! As a girl who is constantly on the go and needs something that is both nutritionally filling, but also quick in the mornings, Avocado toast has really had my back!

But before we jump into thesis amazing easy to-make breakfast saviours, lets talk a little bit about WHY fats are important and why you should have them in your diet.

Don’t be scared of it… you actually need it in your diet for survival and healthy body functions! Fat doesn’t directly make you “fat” – excess calories make you “fat”.  It’s about getting the right balance people!

Why do we need fat?

Virtually all natural foods contain some fat! This is because both plants & animals use fat to store energy, same as us!

As with everything, balance is key, this is why having too much of anything is bad for you, including fats. So making sure you live a well balance life that is matched with a well balanced diet will ensure that you are striving towards your goals!

BUT AMY What is fat for?!

Okay - fat is one of our main sources of energy – Our body uses the fat we eat, and fats we make from other nutrients in our bodies,  to provide the energy for most of our life-functions! This is why whales pack on the blub while their migrating so that they can produce enough milk for their calf’s! I think I remember that from Planet Earth from like science 9. Here is a quick little list that I came up with for you guys to see what exactly fat does for us in our bodies!

•   Energy store

•   Essential Fatty Acids

•   Proper functioning of nerves and brain

•   Maintaining healthy skin and other tissues

•   Transporting Fat-Soluble Vitamins

A New Twist on Toast’

So now that we know WHY fats are important we can get back on topic with the Avocado Toast. Here I want to share with you guys 3 of my favourite ways on how to put your own creative spin on your toast! With all my toast that I eat, I make sure that it is multigrain and has a 10-15g Carb macro count! I always make sure my avocado is fresh and I also only use half on the avocado per serving (15 g fat)!

{**Also make sure you don’t waste the other half of your avocado! Save half an avocado is to rub lemon or lime juice on the open half, cover it with plastic wrap, and put it in the fridge until you’re ready to eat**}

All Recipes use 1/4 of avocado and 1 multi grain slice of toast
